The government of Andhra Pradesh held their most important cabinet meeting today, after a long time, to discuss the future of the state. Chief Minister Y.S.Jagan Mohan Reddy preceded the meeting, and all the members of the party were present.
A decision has been taken about increasing the number of districts in the state, from the current number of 13 to a potential 25 or 26. The new districts will be formed on the basis of the Lok Sabha Constituencies in the state.
There have been several objections to this idea, including that of Sikakulam MLA Dharmana Prasada Rao and that of Assembly speaker Thammineni Srinivas’s. However, the Chief Minister seems to be fixated upon the idea of increasing the number of districts in the state. A special committee has also been assigned for this purpose, headed by the Chief Secretary. A final call will be taken in this regard by March 31st, 2021.
The issue about the distribution of lands to poor people has also been discussed in the meeting, along with the ongoing coronavirus situation in the state. The scheme of helping women belonging to BC, SC, ST and other minority groups has also been discussed, and it has been approved by everyone in the meeting.
Nadu-Nedu scheme has also been discussed in the meeting, and a decision to implement it in 44,500 schools has also been made.
However, there is still no clarity over the shifting of capital from Amaravati to Visakhapatnam.
