Of late, the number of hate crimes against Indian students, and more concerningly Telugu students have been on a rise in the USA. There is a shocking incident in this connection today and it has resulted in the death of an AP student.
Dasari Gopikrishna, a 32-year-old student from Bapatla district in Andhra Pradesh, succumbed to injuries sustained in a shooting at the Mad Butcher grocery store in Fordyce, Arkansas, USA.
Gopikrishna, a native of Yajali in Karlapalem mandal, was at the counter on Saturday afternoon when an assailant entered the store and opened fire. Gopikrishna was critically injured and collapsed at the scene. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he died on Sunday while receiving treatment.
Gopikrishna, who moved to the United States eight months ago for better livelihood opportunities, was working at the supermarket when the tragic incident occurred.
The Arkansas State Police reported that the shooting, which took place around 11:30 am local time, resulted in the deaths of three civilians and injuries to ten others, including two police officers. The suspect, identified as 44-year-old Travis Posey, was injured in a subsequent shootout with law enforcement and is currently in custody.
