Former chief minister of Andhra Pradesh YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has been confined to just 11 seats in the assembly this year as his YCP grossly underdelivered in the assembly election.
Now that Jagan has managed to win just 11 seats in the assembly election, he is at the risk of not even being the opposition leader of the state.
In this context, Jagan wrote a letter to the AP assembly speaker and he mentioned “Nowhere in the law does it state that 10% seats are needed for opposition status. The party with the most seats in the opposition should be granted opposition status”.
Jagan is evidently pushing the limits to secure the opposition status in AP and it is up to the speaker to decide on this. It has to be seen how speaker Ayyanna Patrudu will deal with this tricky situation now.
